You don’t always have to buy a full-fare business ticket. Here are practical ways to get upgraded.
Use Miles for an Upgrade
Many airlines let you upgrade a paid economy or premium economy ticket with miles. Check availability before you book; some fares are not upgradeable. International upgrades often offer the best value.
Bid for an Upgrade
Several carriers run upgrade auctions where you bid cash or miles after booking. You’ll get an email a few days before departure if your bid is accepted. Bidding low can still win when the cabin isn’t full.
Ask at Check-In
If you have status or a full-fare ticket, politely asking at the desk or gate sometimes yields a same-day upgrade when seats are open. It’s not guaranteed, but worth a try.
Book Premium Economy First
Premium economy is often more upgradeable than standard economy and puts you higher on the list. Combine that with miles or an upgrade offer for a better chance at business.
